“Play is essential to development as it contributes to the
cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being of children
and youth.  Despite the benefits derived from play for both
children and parents, time for free play has been markedly
reduced for some children.”

American Academy of Pediatrics, 2006

Did you know:
  • 50% of all kindergarten teachers feel children are not ready for
    school, not because they don’t know their a,b,c’s and 1, 2, 3’s
but because they are unable to listen, follow rules, and
directions.  These  are skills you learn through play

  • 33% of children under the age of 2 have a TV in their bedroom,
yet pediatricians recommend no TV until 3 years old.  Reports
show this can limit a child’s creativity.

  • Everyone from the AAP to the CDC to the American Public Health
Association directly link the lack of playtime to the childhood
    obesity epidemic.

  • Children under the age 5 are not emotionally, socially, physically
or cognitively ready for adult-driven organized activities

  • Toddlers and Preschoolers should not be sedentary for more
than 60 minutes at one time, except when they are sleeping.
